Product Description Julia and Valentina Poole are normal American teenagers - normal, at least, for identical 'mirror' twins who have no interest in college or jobs. But everything changes when they receive notice that an aunt whom they didn't know existed has died and left them her flat in an apartment block overlooking Highgate Cemetery in London.

Not as good as I'd hoped! September 7, 2010 A. Lucas (Essex, England) I was really looking forward to this one - and was sadly disappointed. I'd thoroughly enjoyed The Time Traveller's Wife, and had high hopes for this one. However, it was dreary, depressing and I hated the ending! Sorry to be so negative, but it really was very hard to 'feel' anything for any of the characters, or care about what happened to them.
bookclub choice September 7, 2010 Jane Lyne I wouldnt have chosen this book as i didnt enjoy 'time travellers wife' her other best seller but we had it for book club. It is a fairly easy read and not too taxing so if you want something a bit heavier, not the book for you. The story was fairly well planned though a little confusing in parts - it reminded me of an old film. Worth a read but not life changing
Disapointing and poor September 6, 2010 Darren Mooney Like many others, I adored The Time Travellers Wife.
I can only surmise that this book was rushed through for commercial/financial reason as I cant believe that Ms N. can be 100% happy putting her name to the finished result.
A book that starts well enough, with characters introduced and presented to the reader in an engaging way, very quickly loses momentum and finishes up being farcial in my opinion.
Its all been said before in other reviews - i.e. The unrealistic "escape plan", lack of post mortem etc... The book could have been so much more.
Disapointed and cheated. Purchase at your peril (I borrowed the copy I read and still feel cheated - its a fortnight of my life i'll never get back).
A huge disappointment September 6, 2010 kirstinlondon Like many of the other reviewers, I absolutely loved 'The Time Traveler's Wife' and was expecting a similar sort of quality from 'Her Fearful Symmetry'. The book is quite bizarre - it's as though the author completely lost direction and had no idea how to develop the plot or the characters. The first third of the book was very good with, what I thought, was a lot of potential for a great story... instead, most of the characters became totally unbelievable and the plot became increasingly far fetched to the point where the whole story seemed ludicrous. It's not as though I don't like a good ghost story or one that is simply a bit quirky or that thinks outside the box so to speak - but it seemed like Audrey Niffenegger started the book, got bored, and then handed it to a total amateur to finish. I alternated from laughing out loud at the sheer stupidity of the last couple of chapters to just being bored and irritated that such a ridiculous book came from the same author as 'The Time Traveler's Wife.'
Strange, depressing, disappointing! September 1, 2010 Sarah 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whilst this book is extremely well written and the characters are intriguing and well developed (particularly Robert and Martin) the end of the book severely lets it down. As other reviewers have written it seems to be a book of two halves. The first half being completely removed from the end. The beginning sets up the book beautifully introducing the characters and giving hints of family secrets whilst giving little bits of history about London and Highgate Cemetery. However, the second half of the book seems to completely leave any sense of reality behind. The twist instead of being exciting ended up just being extremely strange, dark and left me feeling quite depressed. It is such a shame that a book that started out with such promise and depth of character lost its way. I have given two stars purely for the standard of writing in the first half of the book.
