Soloman Kane September 6, 2010 J. Mangan Soloman Kane is a well worked story from beginning to end. The main star is an ideal pick for this film,
They got it spot on with the way they mixed special effects with real time.
Just wish they had found a way of putting in the deleted scenes. But over all the film is action packed from beginning to end.....
Great film - love the extra features September 6, 2010 CynDaVaz I was desperate to add this DVD to my collection, but since there's been zero news on when it'll hit the shelves in the U.S., I decided to take the direct advice of Michael Basset himself (the director) and purchase it from Amazon.co.uk. I don't regret the decision for one moment.
It's a shame this film hasn't made its way to theaters in America, because I would really love to see it on the big screen. After watching Solomon Kane I realized that I actually like this character more than Robert E. Howard's other (more famous) creation - Conan. Solomon has more depth of character - and he just looks darn cool in that hat and cape. The storyline was compelling, and not counting the opening scene, the intense action didn't really pick up until nearly halfway through the film. I'm not complaining, though, because this made the character of SK feel well-developed by that time. Because Howard never wrote an 'origin' story for SK, Michael Bassett took the task upon himself and created one for the movie. And it was a job well done.
The special features were a treat (various segments on making the film, interviews with the actor and director, and two separate commentaries - one with Bassett and Purefoy and the other with just Bassett). I haven't listened to the second commentary yet, but the first one proved to be quite entertaining and interesting.
Highly recommended, especially for those who love the adventure/fantasy genre.
would be good as a kids pantomime September 1, 2010 Paul James Treslove (London) The idea is good. A Warlord who has lost his way amongst all the killings for treasure power etc etc and has also, due to his bad ways lost his soul to the devil. That is where it stops being good. The acting is, quite literally diabolical along the same level as a second rate pantomime. Ive nothing more to say about this rubbish.
This film is amazing. August 28, 2010 Jr Crossley I was fortunate enough to see this film at the cinema and brought it as soon as it was released on DVD. James Purefoy, Alice Krige and Pete Postlethwaite give outstanding performances. The plot is about ow Soloman Kane became to be the witch hunter he is in the novels and it works brilliantly. To boot, there is a wonderful seen where Soloman Kane is crossing a frozen river, it's fantastic. That there is a good deal of rain in the film also helps, it's a dark film and the weather is grim to match! Definetly 1 to watch, the CGI stuff is good, particularly in the first battle scene.
PUREFOY MAGIC August 28, 2010 Lulu I and my family thoroughly enjoyed this film we had not heard of this film before but bought it from write ups and previous reviews, I was glad I did it kept you entertained all the way through and James Purefoy was the perfect choice for the roll,
he was brilliant I did'nt want it to end and hope they make a follow on film, which I would certainly buy.
